A playful meditation on the gaze and the children's game 'peekaboo', the act of hiding and revealing; where what is only partly glimpsed becomes most compelling. This beaded neckpiece sits at mid-chest like a small theatre of looking. Turmeric-dyed, upcycled cotton is transformed through hand-beading with glass seed beads sourced from Durban’s Victoria Street Market. At its centre, a single crystal bead imitates a tear, softening the gaze with empathy, understanding and reciprocity. Intimate, performative, and bold.
